Tea parties have been around for well over 3,000 years. People on all parts of the earth have tea parties every day. So sit down, pour yourself a cup of tea, and let's gossip about tea-parties. (This article relates to British tea-parties.)
Steps
- Choose your time. Traditionally, a tea party is held in the anytime in the afternoon, either late noon (11:30 AM to 12:30 PM) or afternoon (3:00 PM to 4:00 PM). Anytime is good for a tea party however.
- Send out invitations about two weeks before the event.
- Set out fresh linens on the table, and make sure the garden is nice or the room where it will be held is clean.
- Begin to set out your fine china, tea cups, eating utensils, and decorations about two hours in advance (see Tips).
- Begin boiling the water and setting out the food (see tips) about 10 minutes before guest are scheduled to arrive. Take this time to put the tea inside the tea pot. You will need this time while the water is still boiling to gossip or talk.
- When the water is ready, pour it into the tea pot and take the tea pot to the table.
- Bring guests to the table and chat, sip tea and eat the delicious food you've prepared.
Tips
- Most Tea Parties are small, usually no more than four people. Do not have large ones as a beginner.
- Tea party usually goes on for an hour and a half.
- Decorations Typically include Fresh flowers in a Crystal vase, Dollies, and other things that you thing would be appropriate for a tea party.
- If and when you gossip, make sure everyone knows that it is just the spirit of the tea party and that they can ask to stop at anytime.
- Typical food is tea sandwiches, coffee, crumpets, biscuits, cookies, fresh fruit, and anything that is "Light Fare".
